The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture (ODAFF) has officially confirmed the presence of Asian longhorned ticks in Oklahoma. The detection of the tick occurred in Mayes County, as reported by ODAFF on Tuesday.
According to ODAFF, the Asian longhorned tick can result in severe anemia for the animals it infects and also transmit various diseases that can affect both humans and animals when present in large numbers.
The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food, and Forestry (ODAFF) has announced that it will conduct an epidemiological investigation to determine how ticks arrived in the state and whether they are present on other premises. In the meantime, ODAFF officials are urging all livestock owners to keep a close eye on their animals and monitor them closely.
