The Franklin County Sheriff’s office has recently made public the body camera footage capturing the moment when SWAT officers shot a man who was wanted for a series of charges.
SWAT officers arrived at a construction site in Gahanna on October 30 to apprehend Alexander Tolber, a 32-year-old individual with multiple active arrest warrants in Franklin and Fairfield counties. The officers had received information indicating that Tolber was present at the construction site.
Chief Deputy Rick Minerd Jr. from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office stated that it is unclear how many of the three officers who fired their weapons actually struck Mr. Tolber.
Tolber received immediate medical attention following the shooting and is currently recuperating at Mount Carmel East.
“The act of saving the life of the person who was trying to harm you by rendering them aid showcases remarkable professionalism,” expressed Brian Steel, President of Fraternal Order Of Police Capital City Lodge 9.
The investigation into the incident is being handled by Ohio’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office plans to conduct an independent investigation following the receipt of a final report from BCI. It may take several months for the report to be completed.
“We are always striving to determine the effectiveness of our tactics and identify areas for improvement,” emphasized Franklin County Sheriff Dallas Baldwin.
The officers responsible for the shooting have been placed on administrative leave.
The decision on whether to present the shooting to a grand jury will be made by BCI and the Franklin County prosecutor’s office once BCI completes its investigation.
