Winfield Man Charged After Attempting to Grab Officer’s Weapon During Arrest

Winfield Man Arrested After Attempting to Grab Officer’s Firearm

A Winfield man was arrested Thursday after allegedly being uncooperative during a battery investigation and attempting to grab an officer’s firearm. No injuries were reported during the incident.

Kevin S. Redford, 38, remains in the Cowley County Jail as of Tuesday, according to online records. Winfield police stated that Redford tried to seize a holstered weapon from an officer, but the firearm was never fully removed from the holster due to intervention from another officer.

Police Chief Robbie DeLong confirmed that Redford was taken into custody without further incident. Redford faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault, battery, and assault. His bond has been set at $10,950.

The incident occurred around 6:25 p.m. when police responded to an open 911 call at Walnut Towers in the 1200 block of Menor in Winfield. Upon arrival, officers made contact with an individual who reported being the victim of a battery.

When officers attempted to speak with Redford, he refused to open his door, prompting the need for a search warrant. Officers eventually forced entry into the residence and apprehended Redford. It was during this time that he attempted to grab the officer’s firearm.
