The Long Island Expressway has been reopened following a tragic morning accident.
The Long Island Expressway has reopened after a fatal crash resulted in significant delays during the Wednesday morning commute.
Traffic on the Long Island Expressway (LIE) faced significant disruptions as all westbound lanes were closed for several hours at the Clearview Expressway.
Commuters were directed to use the service road as an alternative route. Delays continued to build up even after 8:30 a.m., with traffic stretching past Shelter Rock Road into Nassau County.
The FDNY swiftly responded to the collision between two trucks at around 5 a.m. near exit 27.
According to the police, it seems that a disabled flatbed truck had parked on the side of the road. The driver, who was 65 years old, was standing outside the vehicle when another truck collided with the corner of the flatbed. As a result, the driver was struck by the impact.
The police reported that the other driver remained at the scene, and the 65-year-old was declared dead.
Drivers were advised to consider taking the Southern State Parkway if they wanted to avoid the traffic congestion on the Northern State Parkway.
