Weather warning for wind and rain issued for London this weekend

Strong Winds and Heavy Rain to Disrupt London and UK Travel

Londoners should brace for a challenging Thursday evening commute as wind gusts are expected to peak at 43 mph between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., according to the Met Office. The forecast warns of potential disruptions to road and rail travel, with similar conditions anticipated across the UK.

A yellow weather alert has been issued for London and nationwide, predicting strong winds and downpours from 3 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Sunday. Gusts in parts of the country could reach 80 mph, particularly in northwest Scotland, Northern Ireland, and northern England. The alert for Scotland remains active from 4 p.m. Wednesday to 9 a.m. Thursday, with the winds extending into other regions by Thursday afternoon.

The Met Office has advised the public of potential “danger to life” risks from flying debris and large coastal waves. Road, rail, and ferry services are also likely to experience delays during the adverse weather.

London could see even stronger gusts on Saturday night, with speeds reaching up to 47 mph alongside rain showers. The forecast indicates that a deep low-pressure system will cross England and Wales from Friday afternoon, bringing heavy rainfall and potentially hazardous conditions.

Rainfall totals are expected to range between 15-25mm across much of England and Wales, with localized accumulations of up to 50-70mm in higher-altitude areas of northern and western England and Wales. Flooding is a concern, particularly in exposed regions of Wales.

The Met Office continues to monitor the evolving conditions and advises residents to stay updated on alerts and warnings. Travelers should prepare for disruptions and exercise caution during the stormy period.
