Suspect in overnight homicide arrested by Pittsburg police

Pittsburg police have successfully made an arrest in an ongoing investigation into a homicide that occurred overnight.

Kevin Hukill, a 25-year-old resident of Wichita, is currently detained in the Crawford County Jail without bond. He is facing charges of second-degree murder, interfering with law enforcement, and being in possession of a firearm as a felon.

In addition, he had a pending warrant in Crawford County for not showing up in court regarding a prior drug offense.

Shortly before 11 o’clock last night, the police were called to an apartment on South Elm Street in response to a shooting report.

Fedor Lee Warren Lomax, 29, of Pittsburg, was found shot when they arrived at the scene. He was immediately taken to the hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries later on.

According to authorities, Hukill fled the scene and sought refuge in a residence on East Park Street. After obtaining a search warrant, law enforcement discovered Hukill hiding in the attic. Initially resistant, Hukill eventually surrendered when a negotiator successfully convinced him to come down.

He was apprehended at approximately 5:30 am this morning.
