Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued for Southern Wisconsin: Threat of Tornadoes and 2” Hail

Southern Wisconsin is under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch, according to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center. The watch will be in effect from Sunday afternoon until early Monday morning. The area covered by the watch spans around 60 miles north and south of a line extending from 45 miles south-southwest of Mason City, Iowa, to 55 miles south of Racine, Wisconsin.

The National Weather Service cautions that the coverage and intensity of thunderstorms are likely to amplify this evening, posing risks of scattered damaging wind gusts that can reach up to 70 mph, isolated large hail that can measure up to 2 inches in diameter, and the potential occurrence of one or two tornadoes. It is highly recommended for residents to stay vigilant and equipped for severe weather conditions.

The NWS warns that the risk of damaging winds may increase as the evening progresses, with isolated storms that produce hail potentially evolving into a more significant threat. There is also a chance of a landspout tornado or two. As such, residents are advised to stay updated on weather conditions and take necessary precautions to protect their safety.
