Rescuer Saves Pregnant Dog From Euthanasia With 30 Minutes to Spare: ‘Safe With Me’

In a crucial moment, an out-of-state rescue organization came to the rescue just in time to save the life of a pregnant shelter dog from being euthanized.

A pregnant dog, just 2 years old, was facing the heartbreaking fate of being euthanized at a shelter in Oklahoma. With her scheduled time of 9 a.m. rapidly approaching, Sara, an experienced foster mother, came across a Facebook post that urgently appealed for saving the dogs on the euthanasia list. Without hesitation, she made the compassionate choice to intervene.

Sara collaborated with Pawsitive Tails Dog Rescue of Kansas City to save the pregnant dog, affectionately named Mama Baskin Robbin. They reached out to the shelter at 8:30 a.m., a mere 30 minutes before the dog was scheduled to be euthanized. Sara shared with Newsweek that there was a sense of anxiety among them all, but fortunately, the shelter received their request just in the nick of time and kept Mama Baskin Robbin until the rescue group could come and take her.

A dedicated volunteer embarked on a 5 1/2-hour journey to fetch the mama and safely transport her to Sara’s residence on Tuesday. Sara, eager to share this heartwarming tale, posted a video on her TikTok account @pitbulls.rescues.kcmo on August 12. The viewers were instantly captivated, expressing their support and anticipation for the arrival of the adorable puppies.

On Friday evening, Mama Baskin Robbin gave birth to her 11 adorable puppies, each one named after a delicious Baskin-Robbins ice cream flavor.

When Sara laid eyes on the mama dog, she knew she was ready for all the puppies. With a confident smile, she described the mama as “large and in charge.” Sara’s experience in fostering dogs and pregnant canines for over 10 years has made her well-prepared for this moment.

Discover The Best Pet Insurance Plans For Dogs

Sara assured us that Mama and all her puppies are doing well. However, there was a moment of concern when Mama Baskin Robbin experienced tremors one night. Sara promptly took her to the vet for a thorough examination. The tests revealed that she was slightly anemic, which wasn’t unexpected given the prolonged duration of her labor.

She is currently taking iron supplements and incorporating beef liver into her diet to replenish her iron levels.

“Sara spoke highly of her, saying, ‘She’s an amazing mother. Usually, I have to assist with providing for the kids, but I haven’t had to do so with her yet.'”
