Rainy Start to Week with Snow Showers on the Horizon

Rain and Snow Expected in Upcoming Weather System

The region experienced much-needed rain Sunday night into Monday morning, with more precipitation expected as a new low-pressure system moves through.

On Tuesday, light showers, resembling drizzle, are forecast throughout the day. As cold air rushes in behind the system, lingering moisture could transition into snow showers by early Wednesday morning. Forecast models suggest a quick morning transition to snow, with a potential second round later in the afternoon.

Accumulation is expected to be minimal, as surface temperatures remain too warm for significant snow to stick. Some areas may see a light dusting, but melting due to recent warmer weather will likely prevent substantial accumulation. Pavement temperatures, bolstered by the recent mild conditions, are anticipated to stay above freezing through Tuesday afternoon.

However, forecasters are monitoring the possibility of snow squalls—brief, intense bursts of snow that can cause localized travel disruptions. Similar to isolated thunderstorms, these squalls may affect some neighborhoods while sparing others. If they occur, they could produce heavy snowfall in a short period, potentially impacting road conditions.

As the system exits, colder air will surge into the region. Temperatures are expected to plummet to the 20s by Thursday morning, with wind chills possibly dipping into the single digits. Stay tuned for updates as the system develops and conditions evolve.
