Our region is expected to experience showers tonight, providing much-needed relief to the ongoing drought issues. Although the showers are likely to be light, they will still be beneficial. It will take multiple rounds of healthy showers to make a significant impact, but any amount of rain is a step in the right direction. While some showers may produce downpours, resulting in locally heavy rainfall, most will be on the lighter side. After midnight, temperatures will dip to the mid-60s, with some patchy fog possibly developing.
On Wednesday, our region can expect to experience some unsettled weather as the frontal boundary continues to stall directly over us. There will be intermittent rounds of heavy showers and storms throughout the day, which could result in localized flooding due to the potential for training downpours in the area. As a result, the Weather Prediction Center has placed our region under a level one marginal risk for flooding. With a lot of cloud cover, temperatures will be held down to the mid 70s, making for a rather dreary day overall.
Despite the stationary front fizzling down to our south, there is still a high chance of rain on Thursday. However, we can expect much nicer weather towards the end of the work week and into the weekend as a cold front is set to push into the region from the north. As our front slides through, there may be a few scattered showers and storms, and a strong storm or two cannot be ruled out. Our primary threat will be damaging wind gusts, but overall, the threat remains fairly low. The temperature is expected to hover around the mid 70s.
As we head towards Friday, the weather looks to be on the upswing as high pressure moves in from the north, providing some relief from the humidity. While there may still be a slight chance of an isolated shower in our southern counties, the majority of us can expect partly sunny skies and dry conditions throughout the day, with temperatures reaching the low 80s.
On Saturday, we can expect mostly dry conditions with only a slight chance of a couple of brief showers. This is due to the cold front from Thursday that has moved southwards and stalled at the Virginia/North Carolina border. The skies are expected to be partly sunny and the temperatures will range from the low to mid 80s.
The weather on Sunday will be mostly sunny with high pressure almost directly overhead. Expect the high temperatures to be in the mid 80s.
As we move into Monday, the humidity is set to make a comeback, thanks to high pressure shifting towards the east. As a result, we can expect to see scattered showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon due to the heat and humidity. High temperatures are likely to reach the mid 80s, so it’s important to stay cool and hydrated throughout the day.
Expect scattered downpours throughout the afternoon on Tuesday, accompanied by the typical heat and humidity of summer. High temperatures will remain in the mid-80s.
Looking at the extended forecast, we can expect a continuation of an unsettled pattern. While this pattern is beneficial for improving drought conditions in the region, it also means that temperatures won’t be soaring to any extreme highs. Even though we have a warm air mass in place for next week, abundant showers will keep the high temperatures in check and limit them to the 80s. Out of the 10-day forecast, Wednesday seems to be the hottest day with isolated shower chances and highs in the mid 80s. Thursday is expected to be a wet day, with scattered storms likely due to a front crossing, and this pattern will continue into Friday. Throughout these days, high temperatures will remain in the low to mid 80s.
Get ready for some wet weather tonight with showers likely, including some downpours, and lows in the mid-60s. Tomorrow, Wednesday, expect mostly cloudy skies with scattered showers and a few rumbles likely. Highs will be in the mid to upper 70s. Thursday will bring more rain with highs in the same range. On Friday, there will be a chance of an isolated shower with partly sunny skies and highs in the low 80s. Saturday will be mostly sunny with just a brief, isolated shower in the afternoon and highs in the low to mid-80s. Sunday will be a nice break from the humidity with mostly sunny skies and warmer temperatures, reaching highs in the mid-80s. However, on Monday, scattered storms will return in the afternoon with highs in the mid-80s. Tuesday will see more scattered storms likely with highs in the same range. Expect isolated showers on Wednesday with highs in the mid to upper 80s. Thursday will bring scattered showers with highs in the mid-80s, and on Friday, there will be isolated to widely scattered storms with highs in the low 80s.
