Police respond to shots fired in Oktibbeha Co.
On the morning of December 14th, deputies in Oktibbeha County swiftly responded to reports of shots fired at a party on Shepard Road. The incident occurred around 1 a.m. The shooting victim’s condition is currently unknown, but thankfully there were no fatalities.
During the incident, another individual sustained injuries when a driver, startled by the shooting, accidentally backed into someone.
The individual who was run over received medical attention for minor injuries at the location and was subsequently discharged.
Later that day, a drive-by shooting took place at a residence, which the Sheriff suspected to be a possible retaliation for the earlier incident in the morning. Fortunately, no one sustained any injuries in the incident of the drive-by shooting.
“I am fed up with the gun violence plaguing our county. It is crucial for law-abiding citizens to understand that they are safe and protected.
However, those who choose to break the law will face the consequences. We will increase the presence of deputies in order to eradicate this senseless violence. It is imperative that we put an end to teenagers carrying guns.
If anyone has any information, it is their responsibility to come forward. The next victim could be their own family member, or worse, someone could lose their life,” emphasized Phelps.
