A bold trade proposal has sparked excitement across the NBA, suggesting the Phoenix Suns could trade superstar Kevin Durant to a formidable Western Conference team.
While there is no indication that the Suns are considering trading Durant, or that the future Hall of Famer wants to leave, the team’s recent performance has raised questions.
Despite adding Durant to the roster, Phoenix has secured just one playoff series win in the KD era, and with a 12-8 record through 20 games, they don’t appear to be a true championship contender.
If the Suns decide to shake things up, Durant could be the player to move, as Devin Booker is unlikely to be traded, and veteran guard Bradley Beal might have the most immovable contract in the league.
Eddie Bitar of Fadeaway World proposed a massive trade scenario where the Suns send Durant back to the Golden State Warriors.
In exchange, Phoenix would receive Andrew Wiggins, Jonathan Kuminga, Gary Payton II, De’Anthony Melton, and first-round picks in 2026 and 2029.
Bitar argues that the chemistry between Durant and Stephen Curry is unparalleled, and if Durant’s time in Phoenix stagnates, he may seek a return to the Warriors—a team he knows can immediately contend for a championship.
The move would also allow Booker to further establish himself as the Suns’ franchise player, with Beal providing veteran scoring support.
The trade would bring in a mix of promising young talent and valuable draft picks, setting the stage for the Suns to build a more balanced roster as Booker and Beal enter their prime years.
Durant, who will miss at least a week with an ankle injury, has averaged 25.8 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 3.1 assists through the first 13 games of the 2024-25 season.
His departure from Golden State in 2019, after helping the Warriors secure back-to-back NBA championships in 2017 and 2018, was a turning point for both Durant and the Warriors. Had Durant not suffered an injury in the 2019 NBA Finals, the Warriors might have completed a three-peat.
A trade that sends Durant back to the Warriors would make them overwhelming favorites to win the 2025 NBA Championship, further solidifying their status as title contenders. With Curry, Green, and the addition of Durant, the Warriors would be even more formidable, closing in on their fifth title of the 21st century.
