Officials stated that a fatal crash near FM 740 led to the closure of Interstate 20 on Wednesday morning.
Police have confirmed the identity of the suspect who allegedly caused a fatal accident on Interstate 20, resulting in the death of four individuals and injuring three others. According to the authorities, the suspect was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
According to a press release from Mesquite police, a collision took place at around 1:44 a.m. on January 1 in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 20 at FM 740.
According to the police, the victims were hit by an intoxicated driver at a high rate of speed while they were trying to change a tire on the outside shoulder.
Police have reported that the driver, identified as Basilio Mares Ortiz, has been arrested and is facing charges of four counts of intoxication manslaughter.
The police have identified the victims who lost their lives as Arturo Martinez Gonzalez, aged 47, Anthony Hernandez, aged 19, Mario Guajardo De La Paz, aged 19, and a 15-year-old male. All of them were residents of Terrell, as confirmed by the police.
According to TxDOT, the fatal crash led to the closure of the eastbound lanes of Interstate 20 on Wednesday morning. However, TxDOT has now confirmed that all lanes are open.
