NYPD Investigates Fatal Pedestrian Accident at Staten Island Hospital

Pedestrian Killed in Staten Island University Hospital Parking Lot Identified

Police have identified Kathleen Murphy, 64, of Willowbrook, as the victim of a fatal car accident on the grounds of Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze.

The incident occurred early Wednesday morning as Murphy was struck by a Volkswagen SUV while walking toward the hospital building at 242 Mason Avenue from the parking lot around 6:45 a.m.

According to the NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Information, a 67-year-old man was driving the Volkswagen southwest on the parking lot access road when he hit Murphy, who was walking northbound.

The NYPD Highway District Collision Investigation Squad is leading the inquiry into the circumstances of the accident.

A spokeswoman for Staten Island University Hospital expressed condolences, saying, “We are deeply saddened by the devastating event that occurred today. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the family and our team members during this difficult time.

We remain committed to supporting everyone affected and are fully cooperating with authorities in their ongoing investigation.”

While a source indicated that Murphy was an employee of the hospital, the spokeswoman did not immediately confirm this detail. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
