Early on Wednesday morning, the team departed to collaborate with the Federal Emergency Management Agency and remain prepared to offer assistance whenever necessary.
According to Rafel Pouncy, a crew sea investigator for Michigan Humane, they are on their way to Columbia, South Carolina to provide their assistance in emergency animal rescue and response. He mentioned that they will be available to help with local animal control or participate in search and rescue operations once they reach the command post. Pouncy stated, “Whatever the need calls for, we will be at their disposal.”
Equipped with a rescue boat, rigging gear, dry suits, and other essential items, the team can also venture out onto the water to provide assistance whenever necessary.
Pouncy expressed that it feels great to not only assist animals but also to educate families about fundamental aspects of animal care. “It’s a wonderful feeling to be able to impart knowledge and help people learn more about these creatures,” Pouncy added.
Amidst the crisis, several organizations are extending their support in various ways. Disaster Relief at Work (DRAW), a non-profit organization based in Waterford Township, also contributed to the cause by sending two pallets of buckets filled with essential supplies to distribute among the victims of the recent tropical storm. Michigan Humane is not alone in their efforts to help those affected by the disaster.
According to the non-profit’s representatives, buckets consist of essential items such as cleaning supplies and tarps. They shared that they provide these buckets, filled with disaster-related necessities, to an average of 12 natural disasters across the country every year.
