A man from Napoleon, Ohio, will face up to 30 years in prison following the death of a woman who was a passenger in his car during a police chase that ended in a crash.
Kim Lynn Fitch, Jr., 32, received his sentence on Thursday from Circuit Judge William Paul Nichols. Fitch was given 13 to 30 years for involuntary manslaughter and reckless driving causing death, and an additional 17 to 30 years as a fourth felony habitual offender for first-degree fleeing and eluding police. The sentences will run concurrently.
Lesley Rosales, 46, from Leipsic, Ohio, died from injuries sustained when Fitch crashed into a utility pole at the intersection of Monroe and Tecumseh streets in Dundee, Michigan, while fleeing police.
On January 6, 2023, around 9:15 p.m., police attempted to stop a red Ford Fusion in Toledo’s North End neighborhood. The driver, Fitch, did not stop and led police on a high-speed chase into Michigan, traveling north from the state line, then west into Dundee, where he ultimately crashed.
Both Ms. Rosales and Fitch had to be rescued from the vehicle after it crashed and caught fire.
A jury convicted Fitch on May 24.
