Mississippi Valley State University (MVSU) has announced the departure of head football coach Kendrick Wade after two seasons, as reported by Football Scoop. Wade, a graduate of MVSU, leaves the program with a 2-21 overall record.
Despite the team’s struggles, his tenure was highlighted by a historic win over Florida A&M, ending the Rattlers’ 23-game home winning streak.
Wade returned to MVSU in January 2023, taking on the challenge of rebuilding a program that had faced difficulties in recent years.
In his first season, Wade’s leadership helped produce two All-Americans, tight end Jaxson Davis and defensive back Omar Emmons, as well as a finalist for the Jerry Rice FCS Freshman of the Year Award, quarterback Ty’Jarrian William.
Known for his impressive recruiting abilities, Wade worked hard to bring in talent to MVSU, though the team’s performance on the field struggled to produce consistent results.
Before returning to MVSU, Wade had earned a strong reputation as a wide receiver coach, notably at Delta State University, where he contributed to an 11-2 season in 2022.
Wade also developed NFL talent at Fort Valley State University and gained experience at Briar Cliff University and various high school programs, where he was known for helping offensive players reach their full potential.
Wade’s deep ties to MVSU as an alumnus and his commitment to developing young talent were key factors in his appointment as head coach.
However, the challenges of competing in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) proved too difficult to overcome. As MVSU moves forward, the university begins its search for a new head coach to guide the Delta Devils program.
