Multiple boats capsized at Geist without any reported injuries

During a sudden storm on July 14th, which included strong winds, rain, thunder, and lightning, multiple sailboats overturned on Geist Reservoir. However, there were no reported injuries.

The Fishers Fire Department, along with the Department of Natural Resources and Indianapolis Fire Department, conducted search and rescue operations at the reservoir using first responder boats 392, 391, and 391B. They successfully carried out multiple surface rescues.

During the storm, FFD reported that there were 12 boats on the water, carrying a total of 24 people.

The FFD confirmed that there were no injuries reported and everyone was accounted for.

According to an email from Jim Jordan at the Indianapolis Sailing Club, there has been at least one sailboat overturned on Geist. However, specific details about the boat involved were not provided.

During strong winds, smaller racing boats capsizing is not an uncommon occurrence, according to his observation.

According to him, during races, there are typically two safety boats present on the water to aid any sailors who require assistance. He further added that in most cases, the crew can successfully upright the boat and remove the water.
