Mississippi leaders had a lot to say after Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris announced her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D-Minn.), on Tuesday, according to WJTV.
In their quest to select a candidate who could garner widespread support from the American people, the Harris campaign considered a range of factors. One contender who stood out was a midwesterner with a diverse background as a high school teacher, football coach, veteran, and former congressman. While this candidate ticked many political boxes, they also faced criticism from various Mississippi politicians, including Governor Tate Reeves (R-Miss.).
Reeves declared that Vice President Kamala Harris’ selection of a running mate today indicates that her likelihood of straying from her extreme leftist views is equivalent to the number of votes she garnered during the Democratic primary: none.
In the post, Reeves shared a video by RNC Research featuring a quote by Waltz that read, “Neighborliness for one person can be viewed as socialism by another.”
Brandon Presley, the Democratic candidate for Mississippi Governor, may have lost his bid for governor to the incumbent Reeves in 2023. However, the longtime public service commissioner shared a touching personal anecdote about Walz.
Presley, reflecting on his campaign for Governor, shared that Tim Walz, his former football coach, checked in with him regularly during the final days of the campaign. Instead of offering advice or criticism, Walz simply encouraged him to stay focused and keep pushing forward. Presley noted that this is a testament to Walz’s natural instinct as a coach and an encourager, qualities that are especially valuable in these challenging times.
Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) is another advocate for Walz.
“He has served in Congress alongside Governor Tim Walz and expresses his honor to have done so. Being an educator, veteran, and governor, Walz’s experience makes him the perfect candidate for Vice President. He expresses his enthusiasm for working alongside the Harris-Walz team to aid in the preservation of our democracy,” the statement read.
Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) expressed her disapproval of Harris’ new running mate.
She remarked, “It’s no surprise that Harris chose an individual endorsed by Bernie Sanders and his allies on the far left.”
In her post, Hyde-Smith shared a link to a GOP post about X, which labeled Walz as “the most radical, far-left vice-presidential nominee in U.S. history.”
