A lucky resident of Seekonk has become the inaugural $1 million prize winner in the Celtics Banner 18 instant ticket game, a new offering from the Massachusetts State Lottery. This game was made available for purchase on November 19th.
Rego, who has been a fan of the Celtics his entire life, collected his prize on Monday at the state Lottery headquarters in Dorchester.
According to lottery officials, he decided to receive his prize as a single payment of $650,000, before taxes.
When reflecting on the exhilaration of winning the grand prize, Rego, a devoted Celtics fan, channeled the words of basketball legend Kevin Garnett from 2008 when the Celtics secured their 17th championship, proclaiming, “Anything is possible!”
Rego explained that he was drawn to the Celtics Banner 18 ticket due to its vibrant “Celtic green” color. He expressed his intention to utilize his winnings wisely, which includes investing them. Additionally, Rego mentioned his plan to surprise his wife with a brand new car. He also eagerly anticipates attending this year’s NBA Finals, as he firmly believes that the Celtics will successfully defend their title as NBA Champions.
The winning ticket worth $1 million was bought by Rego, a skilled mechanic, at the Speedway located at 1502 Newman Ave. in Seekonk.
The store will be awarded a $10,000 bonus for selling this ticket.
The instant ticket called Celtics Banner 18 now offers an exciting chance to win five additional grand prizes of $1 million.
Players have the opportunity to enter non-winning tickets for various Celtics experiential and merchandise prizes through the game’s Second Chance Drawings. One lucky winner is guaranteed to win $1 million in the Banner 18 Challenge.
One participant will be selected in each of the five Second Chance Drawings of the Banner 18 Challenge.
After completing all the drawings, the Celtics will invite the five winners to attend a home game. During halftime, they will have the opportunity to participate in the exciting “Banner 18 Challenge” on the parquet floor. This challenge will ultimately decide the lucky participant who will walk away with the grand prize of $1 million. The remaining four participants will also be rewarded generously, receiving a $10,000 prize each.
