Kansas City Man Charged with $52,300 Theft in Four Fall Burglaries
A Kansas City, Missouri, man has been charged with stealing over $52,300 worth of electronics, bourbon, and sports memorabilia during a series of burglaries this fall.
Malik Givens, 50, is accused of committing four second-degree felony burglaries on September 11, October 3, November 11, and November 20, 2024. He is being held at the Jackson County Detention Center with a $25,000 bond.
Court records state that Givens allegedly stole laptops, speakers, headphones, tablets, bottles of bourbon, and signed sports memorabilia. While the specific locations are redacted, bond conditions restrict Givens from being within 1,000 feet of four sites, primarily office buildings in south Kansas City: 1200 E. 104th Street, 1011 E. 101st Terrace, 9200 Ward Parkway, and 8800 Ward Parkway.
Detectives identified Givens using surveillance footage from the burglarized locations and comparing it to his prior mugshot. They also utilized information from his probation file to track him, secure a search warrant, and recover the stolen items before taking him into custody.
Givens has a prior criminal record, including a 2018 burglary conviction, though other details have been redacted. At the time of the recent incidents, he was reportedly on probation. Detectives believe this facilitated their investigation and eventual arrest.
