After evading authorities for almost two years, a man from Lima has finally been apprehended in Las Vegas, Nevada. He had been on the run since being involved in a vehicle pursuit and home invasion.
During a press conference on Thursday, Sheriff Matthew Treglia of Allen County announced that Leroy Page, aged 34, is currently in custody at the Clark County Detention Center in Nevada. The FBI Las Vegas Criminal Apprehension Unit apprehended him on Wednesday and he is now awaiting extradition.
After working on the case diligently, FBI Special Agent Brian Russ managed to track down Page by serving over 170 subpoenas, court orders, and search warrants. The investigation led the agents to believe that Page may have been in Washington and Detroit, but they eventually located him in Las Vegas.
According to Treglia, Page’s whereabouts were ultimately discovered by tracking his cellphone activity.
Treglia cautioned that if one intends to go into hiding, it would be wise to steer clear of using phones for the rest of their life.
In October 2022, the Allen County Sheriff’s Office reported that Page engaged in a car chase with the Lima Police Department. Unfortunately, the pursuit ended when he crashed his vehicle near the intersection of West Elm Street and Fraunfelter Road. In an attempt to evade the authorities, he fled the scene and barged into a residence on Fraunfelter Road. For the next two hours, he repeatedly assaulted the homeowners before coercing them to drive him to the intersection of Yoakam Road and West Breese Road. After reaching his desired destination, Page fled the area.
In January 2023, an Allen County grand jury indicted Page with charges of kidnapping, aggravated burglary, felonious assault, having weapons while under disability, and improper handling of a firearm.
In 2022, Page’s encounter with Treglia’s department marked the first time they had ever dealt with him, as confirmed by Treglia.
