Last Of Three Convicted For 2020 Crime Spree Sentenced To 194 Years In Prison

An individual involved in a series of crimes that took place over the course of a week in October 2020 has been sentenced to 194 years in prison, according to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office. This marks the final sentencing for the three individuals convicted in connection with these crimes.

Following a six-day trial in Marion Superior Court 31, a jury convicted Richard Garrett in late October. He was facing his second trial. The prosecutor’s office accuses Garrett of striking his counsel in court earlier this year, leading to a mistrial.

Garrett, Delance Hatcher, and Rashaana Farrow were involved in 13 incidents in Marion County. These incidents included nonfatal shootings, armed robbery, a carjacking, a hit-and-run that resulted in the death of Anthony Mack on October 17, 2020, in the 3500 block of Tacoma Avenue, and the murder of Devon Gillespie, a 19-year-old from Indianapolis, on August 17, 2020, in the 2900 block of East 38th Street.

In November 2020, Garrett and Farrow faced arrest for their suspected connection to the separate incident involving the death of Fishers Police Department K-9 Harlej. During the arrest, authorities discovered that Garrett was carrying a .45 mm handgun.

Garrett’s charges included reckless homicide, conspiracy to commit murder, robbery resulting in bodily harm, two counts of aggravated battery, armed robbery, and four counts of carrying a pistol without a license.

In October, the prosecutor’s office released a news statement that stated, “Delance Hatcher and Rashaana Farrow have also been charged for their involvement in these incidents. Hatcher was sentenced to 65 years last year for his role in this case. Farrow pleaded guilty to Conspiracy to Commit Murder (Level 2 Felony) and is currently serving a 30-year sentence.”

The firearms used by Garrett and Hatcher were identified by matching the shell casings found at the crime scenes. In addition, their presence at the crime scenes was confirmed through phone records, which played a crucial role in their conviction.
