According to Maine officials, a game warden and his K-9 located a 75-year-old man who had been missing for four days after falling off a ledge. The man was found in a bog, bringing an end to his ordeal.
According to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife’s social media account, Michael Altmaier from New Sharon, Maine had been missing since last Monday. He had left his home to attend a meeting in Weld, a small town in the southwest part of the state. The park staff at the Mount Blue State Park Scenic Overlook in Weld later found his car.
On Friday morning, the Maine Warden Service initiated a search for Altmaier. Later that day, at approximately 3:45 p.m. local time, Kayle Hamilton, a Game Warden, and her K-9 partner, Ash, discovered Altmaier along a bog that was about 3/4 of a mile away from where his car was located.
Officials stated that Altmaier may have fallen down a steep embankment on Monday and possibly became disorientated.
According to officials, Altmaier received an initial assessment and first aid from game wardens, search volunteers, and a paramedic before being airlifted by a Maine Forest Service helicopter to a waiting ambulance. He was then transported to a nearby hospital, where he remained overnight.
According to emergency rescue workers, Altmaier’s condition was surprisingly good despite spending four days lying in the bog area. However, there is no update on his condition from the hospital yet.
