Rochester Man Dead After Gunfight During Home Invasion
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A 22-year-old man was shot and killed early Sunday morning during an attempted home invasion in Rochester.
At 5:25 a.m., Rochester Police found Zhymar Thacker dead from multiple gunshot wounds at 289 Emerson Street. The homeowner, an adult man, was also shot in the torso but was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released from the hospital.
According to police, the homeowner and several family members had just moved into the house the night before and were sleeping upstairs. They woke to the sound of a door being kicked in on the first floor, followed by multiple voices downstairs. The homeowner, armed with a handgun, left the room to investigate.
On the landing, he encountered Thacker, one of the intruders, and gunshots were exchanged between the two. Thacker was fatally shot, while the homeowner is recovering from his injuries. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
