A 24-year-old man from Gary, Indiana was taken into custody on Monday night after being involved in a high-speed chase on Interstate 80. The pursuit concluded with a crash, followed by a foot pursuit.
At approximately 10:45 p.m., an Indiana State Trooper noticed a black Ford Bronco zooming down I-80 towards the Illinois state line. The driver, Lyndell Graham Jr., was reportedly exceeding speeds of 100 mph. The trooper promptly initiated a pursuit, signaling for Graham to pull over. However, Graham chose to evade the authorities, swiftly accelerating and even turning off his headlights while maintaining a speed well above 100 mph.
The Bronco took the exit at Broadway and proceeded north before ultimately crashing near Connecticut Street. Graham, the driver, quickly fled the scene on foot, dropping a handgun in the process. The trooper immediately gave chase, ultimately apprehending Graham by using a taser to subdue him. Graham was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Lake County Jail.
Graham, who has a criminal record, is not allowed to have a firearm. He is currently facing several preliminary charges, including being a serious violent felon in possession of a firearm, resisting law enforcement, reckless driving, and other offenses.
