Houston Attorney Charged with Murdering Son at East Texas Lake House
A Houston attorney faces charges of murder and evidence tampering after allegedly killing his son at the family’s lake house in Sabine County, Texas.
Authorities report that 68-year-old Michael Howard admitted to shooting his 20-year-old son, Mark Randall Howard, who had Down syndrome. Michael described the incident as a “horrible accident,” claiming he mistook his son for an intruder on Sunday night.
Following the shooting, investigators allege that Michael placed Mark’s body in the bucket of a backhoe tractor, moved it to a woodpile, and set it on fire. When deputies arrived on Monday, Michael reportedly led them to the remains, where they discovered what appeared to be charred bones and body parts.
Deputies also retrieved the shotgun Michael claimed to have used in the incident. The Texas Rangers are assisting with the investigation.
Michael Howard is being held in the Sabine County Jail, approximately 170 miles from Houston. His bond is set at $10 million for each charge.
Attempts to reach Michael’s attorney for comment have so far been unsuccessful.
