Grand Rapids Public Schools has parted ways with Director of Communications Leon Hendrix

After two years on the job, Grand Rapids Public Schools and their communications director have decided to part ways.

Leon Hendrix joined GRPS in 2022, and he and the district just struck a tentative deal to part ways.

“GRPS would like to thank Mr. Hendrix for his services to our district over the last two years. GRPS remains dedicated to maintaining open and transparent communication with our students, families, staff, and community.”

There will be no hearing on Monday.

Hendrix congratulated his coworkers and expressed his best wishes for the district’s future.

“This week, I leave Team GRPS in an official capacity the same way that I came—so grateful to have had the opportunity to serve the community we all love so much,” Hendrix wrote on his professional website. “Thank you to everyone who has embraced me as part of this team over the last two years. Please keep loving our children and providing them with every opportunity to succeed. I am grateful for all of the love, support, and compassion shown to me, especially during the last several weeks. I could not be more appreciative, and I will never stop rooting for our GRPS scholars.”

Hendrix attended Grand Rapids Montessori and Iroquois Middle School before moving to Wyoming and graduating from Lee High School.

Prior to joining GRPS, he worked in Spectrum Health’s communications department. Many people recognize him from his tenure as a news anchor and reporter in West Michigan.
