Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders praised the bravery of two women who stepped in to help during a confrontation between an Arkansas State Police trooper and a non-compliant suspect in Little Rock. The incident took place last night and involved Angel Zapet-Alvarado, an individual from Guatemala who was identified as an illegal immigrant and was uncooperative during a traffic stop for speeding.
In her remarks, Governor Sanders did not mince words when criticizing the national leadership for their involvement in what she considers to be “the worst border crisis in American history.” She specifically singled out Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden, asserting that “Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are responsible for creating the worst border crisis in history and they must be held accountable.”
As per reports, the incident initiated when the female trooper made an attempt to remove Zapet-Alvarado from his vehicle after he refused to comply with her. In the midst of this struggle, a female motorist who witnessed the situation, stopped her car and showed immense bravery by coming forward to assist the trooper. The governor acknowledged the heroism of both women for their quick and decisive actions that resulted in the suspect’s arrest. He emphasized their crucial role in ensuring the safety of the community.
In a heartfelt statement, Col. Mike Hagar shared his apprehension and appreciation, saying, “Every day, my prayers are with our Troopers who risk their lives to protect our innocent civilians. Today, I am grateful to God for keeping our Trooper safe and for placing an incredibly courageous civilian by her side during such a trying time.” He expressed his concern and dismay over the suspect’s status as an undocumented immigrant, emphasizing the added level of lawlessness it brought to the situation.
Zapet-Alvarado received medical treatment at Mercy Hospital Northwest Arkansas after the altercation and was later taken into custody by law enforcement. He is currently being held at the Benton County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center, where he is facing charges of Second-Degree Battery. Additionally, there is a hold for Homeland Security Investigation (HSI), and further charges may be pending.
The assault resulted in non-life-threatening injuries to the trooper, who was promptly provided with medical treatment. The Criminal Investigation Division of the Arkansas State Police is conducting a comprehensive investigation of the incident to ensure that all aspects are thoroughly examined.
