Thursday will begin with gusty winds and rainy, chilly conditions throughout the afternoon. A cold front moving through the region is bringing in cold air, accompanied by brisk northeast winds. The clouds will clear overnight, and temperatures will sharply drop into the 30s for much of southeast Louisiana and the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
The strong winds will make it feel even colder, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Cold Weather Advisory for areas in south Mississippi and parishes north of Lake Pontchartrain. Wind chills will make temperatures feel like they’re in the range of 18 to 25 degrees.
While these wind chills won’t pose a threat to pipes, precautions should still be taken to protect people, pets, and plants. Even in areas south of Lake Pontchartrain, where temperatures will be in the upper 30s and low 40s, the wind will make it feel like the 20s.
Friday will remain chilly, with highs only reaching the 50s. A brief but significant warm-up is expected for the weekend, with Saturday morning temperatures in the 30s but rising into the 60s by the afternoon.
By Sunday, southerly winds will bring warmer, more humid air, and Monday through Tuesday is expected to bring stormy weather as another First Alert is issued.
