A Mississippi man, 70, was arrested in Florida on charges of cocaine trafficking and possession of drug equipment.
On July 10, a deputy from the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office (SRCSO) performed a traffic stop and arrested the suspect. The deputy stopped Johnson, who was driving a 2021 Chevy Malibu registered in Mississippi, for a traffic infraction.
Deputies said Johnson had gone from Mississippi to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and was on his way back when the stop happened. Deputies formed a reasonable suspicion during the traffic stop that Johnson was engaging in criminal behavior.
After agreeing to a search of the vehicle, deputies uncovered a vacuum-sealed package containing slightly under half a pound of cocaine. Johnson was arrested and accused of cocaine trafficking and possession of drug-related equipment.
