Governor Bill Lee pays tribute to a fallen officer in Tennessee by ordering the State Capitol flags to be lowered to half-staff.

In remembrance of Memphis police officer Demetrice Johnson, the flags will fly at half-staff until sunset.

Governor Lee expressed his ongoing support and prayers for Officer Johnson’s family, loved ones, and the Memphis Police Department.

In a tragic incident that occurred in downtown Memphis, two individuals lost their lives in a fatal crash. One of the victims was identified as a police officer. The details surrounding the accident are still under investigation, and authorities are working diligently to determine the cause of the crash. This devastating incident serves as a reminder of the risks and dangers that law enforcement officers face every day while fulfilling their duties to protect and serve the community. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the families and loved ones affected by this heartbreaking event.

The crash happened in early August.

Around 3 a.m., officers were called to the scene of a two-vehicle crash at Mississippi Boulevard and Danny Thomas Boulevard. Upon arrival, they found a gray Nissan and a Memphis Police squad car involved in the collision.

According to the MPD, their initial investigation found that the driver of the gray Nissan had suffered a gunshot wound during a disagreement with another individual on South Parkway East and Mississippi Boulevard before the collision with the patrol car.
