Fatal accidents occur on Mississippi highways during Christmas travel period

The Mississippi Highway Patrol has announced that, during their efforts to ensure safe travel during the Christmas holiday, four traffic accidents resulted in the tragic loss of four lives.

On Christmas Eve near Brooksville, a semi collided with a sport utility vehicle at the intersection of Highway 45 Alternate and Highway 388.

38-year-old Eric Harris tragically lost his life in the SUV accident, while the driver, 31-year-old Donald Henley from Crawford, sustained severe injuries and was airlifted to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.

On Christmas Eve, there were two tragic accidents that resulted in fatalities. One of these devastating crashes occurred in Pike County, while the other took place in Lincoln and Stone counties. These incidents serve as a reminder of the importance of safe driving during the holiday season.

This year, there were four deaths in a single traffic accident during the Christmas holiday, which is higher than the one reported last year.

During the holiday period from Monday to Thursday, troopers were able to issue a total of 4,154 tickets to motorists. They also made 54 arrests for driving under the influence and attended to 172 crashes.
