You’ve probably heard quite a bit about those individuals who try to exploit the system; the small minority who appear to effortlessly navigate through life without putting in any work, somehow managing to get by without lifting a finger, and taking advantage of the generosity of others.
For every individual labeled as a “freeloader,” there exist countless honest and hardworking individuals who go to great lengths to make a living. These individuals may face financial challenges, but they remain committed, showing up day after day, and working as many hours as possible to support themselves.
Bethany Provencher, a diligent single mother, decided to make a fresh start in St. Charles, Illinois after spending 18 years in Miami. With an 11-year-old son to care for, she embarked on this journey with determination and perseverance.
After 25 years of experience in the customer service industry, Bethany successfully secured a job at a local IHOP in The Magic City. Additionally, she signed a lease for a new apartment in the same city.
Despite the circumstances, she was well aware that finances would be tight for a period of time. According to various reports, she was unable to fully furnish her new apartment due to a lack of funds.
One day, towards the end of the year, a famous couple walked into the IHOP where Bethany was employed and took a seat in her designated area of the restaurant.
As Donnie Wahlberg entered the room, Bethany’s eyes widened with recognition. It was none other than the talented singer-songwriter himself, accompanied by his wife, Jenny McCarthy.
Bethany was filled with excitement as reports indicated. The band Donnie was a part of, New Kids on the Block, happened to be one of her favorites. She had always held a special fondness for Donnie himself.
Bethany was ecstatic to serve him, little did she know that this day would greatly impact her life.
After Donnie and his family finished their lunch, the singer took care of their $35.27 bill and left a heartfelt message for Bethany to discover on the receipt. Alongside a hand-drawn smiley face, it stated: “Thanks, Bethany, Happy New Year. 2020 Tip Challenge.”
Donnie apparently requested Bethany to refrain from opening the receipt until he and his spouse had departed from the IHOP. Bethany complied with his request, but was utterly taken aback when she eventually unveiled the receipt. To her astonishment, Donnie had generously left her and her colleagues a tip amounting to $2,020!
