Clouds prevail with milder temperatures ahead

Mild weather will be the dominant feature in Kansas during the Christmas week. The afternoon temperatures will hover around 50 degrees, ensuring that any precipitation, particularly on Thursday, will be in the form of liquid rather than frozen.

Clouds will become thicker on Monday, accompanied by lighter winds and temperatures reaching around 50 degrees.

There may be a chance of drizzle or light rain showers overnight in south central and southeast Kansas, although the precipitation is not expected to be heavy.

Tuesday may also begin with some wet weather in southern Kansas, but it is expected to dry up by the afternoon, with temperatures remaining near 50 degrees.

A storm system will bring active weather to the western US early in the week as it moves off the West coast on Christmas Eve day. By Thursday, this system will reach Kansas, bringing the opportunity for rain across most of the area.

Currently, the heaviest rainfall is expected over southern Kansas and Oklahoma, but this could change depending on the exact track of the system. Thankfully, there won’t be any ice or snow associated with this weather event, and it is likely to move out by Friday morning.

However, another system will quickly follow, increasing the chance of light rain showers in central and western Kansas on Friday once again.
