Brooksville Police Officer Faces Charges After Traffic Stop in Lowndes County

A Brooksville police officer was arrested after being stopped for a routine traffic violation, according to the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office. Chandler McArthur Jr., 26, faced multiple charges following the incident, including speeding, driving without insurance, and possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle. All charges are classified as misdemeanors.

Authorities stated McArthur was clocked driving 85 mph in a 65 mph zone on Highway 45 South near Carson Road early Sunday morning, shortly after completing a 16-hour shift with the Brooksville Police Department. During the stop, deputies detected the smell of marijuana emanating from the vehicle, prompting a probable cause search that uncovered the drug.

McArthur was taken to the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center, where his bond was set at $1,361 for all three offenses. Following his arrest, Brooksville Police Chief Virginia Rich confirmed that McArthur was terminated from his position with the department.

This incident underscores the continued vigilance of law enforcement in addressing illegal activity, even when it involves one of their own.
