Authorities issue power warning for Kansas, Missouri, and 10 other states amid heatwave

As temperatures soar to some of the highest levels this summer in Kansas City, a power usage monitoring group has issued a warning.

The Southwest Power Pool has issued a Level 1 Emergency Alert on Monday at around 12:30 p.m. This alert is expected to remain in effect until 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening.

The power pool, covering a vast 14-state region from North Dakota to Texas, is a regional organization responsible for monitoring and maintaining a stable balance between electric supply and demand. This region also encompasses Kansas and Missouri, among other states.

When the power pool is at risk of not meeting the required operating reserves, an alert is issued indicating that all available resources are expected to be utilized.

The Southwest Power Pool currently has ample power to meet the demand and is not urging anyone to conserve energy.

The Southwest Power Pool predicts that usage will remain exceptionally high, further straining the power grid and increasing the risk of potential outages.
