Arrest made after driver crashes into The Monarch in Delano

A popular restaurant and bar in Wichita’s Delano district was the unfortunate target of a pickup truck crash, resulting in the arrest of a 25-year-old man.

Neil Bowie was arrested for driving under the influence and driving without registration or with an expired tag, according to Sedgwick County booking records. However, as of 7 a.m. Thursday, he did not appear on the jail’s website.

Around 1 a.m., officers were called to the scene of a vehicle colliding with The Monarch at 579 West Douglas. Capt. Aaron Moses stated that upon arrival, the officers immediately approached the driver and proceeded to apprehend them.

“We want to emphasize the importance of having a designated driver if you plan on consuming alcohol during the holiday season.

It is crucial to realize that driving under the influence is never acceptable and has the potential to profoundly affect numerous lives,” stated Capt. Moses.

According to a Facebook post from the Monarch, everyone is safe despite some damage. The business will remain closed on Thursday, but they have plans to reopen on Friday.

“We are extremely grateful for the kindness and compassion shown by the firemen and police officers during this challenging time.

Although the wall in our office where we stored our bourbon was destroyed, we are delighted by what the WPD discovered amidst the rubble. We are cherishing every victory we can find at the moment!” expressed The Monarch in their post.

According to KAKE’s initial report, Sedgwick County booking records indicated that there was a child in the car with the driver during the crash.

However, the police have now confirmed that this information was incorrect. It has been clarified that the driver was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the accident.
