Several individuals in Batavia and surrounding areas have been arrested and charged with various crimes in recent weeks.
Tia E. Schmieder, 33, of Batavia, has been charged with first-degree burglary, first-degree attempted assault, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, fourth-degree criminal mischief, and second-degree menacing. Schmieder is accused of forcibly entering a residence on State Street and slashing the victim with a knife. She was arraigned and released.
Tyquan D. Bethel, 34, of Batavia, faces charges of first-degree criminal contempt, second-degree unlawful imprisonment, fourth-degree criminal mischief, and second-degree harassment. Bethel was arrested on November 20 after allegedly violating an order of protection by holding a person down and preventing them from leaving, while also taking their phone to stop them from calling 911. He was arraigned and jailed.
Quincy G. Styles, 26, of Batavia, is charged with third-degree robbery after allegedly stealing money from a driver involved in a motor vehicle accident on November 21. Styles reportedly threatened the driver with physical harm if they did not comply. He was arraigned and released.
Joshua D. Michel, 34, of Batavia, has been charged with tampering with physical evidence, tampering with public records, falsely reporting an incident, and endangering the welfare of a disabled person. The charges stem from an investigation involving three separate incidents at the Developmental Disabilities Services Office in Batavia, where Michel was employed.
John P. Wittkopp, 41, of Batavia, is facing second-degree assault charges after allegedly causing serious injury to another individual during a fight on Spencer Court on November 7. He was arraigned and held.
In another case, Thomas J. Mitchell, 35, of Batavia, is charged with petit larceny and grand larceny after allegedly stealing tools from a vehicle on October 9. He was arrested on November 8 and later released.
Other arrests include Nicholas C. Kingdollar, 29, of Batavia, for second-degree criminal contempt after allegedly violating an order of protection by contacting someone while incarcerated at Genesee County Jail, and Sean M. Conway, whose criminal possession of a controlled substance charges stem from an incident on April 26 when he was found with narcotics.
Additionally, Doreen M. Boop, 61, and Meaghan A. Conti, 37, both of Batavia, were arrested for criminal possession of a controlled substance after separate incidents in April. Both were arraigned and released.
Warren T. Cotton, 47, of Batavia, has been charged with two counts of second-degree criminal contempt after allegedly violating a stay-away order of protection on two occasions in November. He was jailed after arraignment.
Brandon M. Seppe, 40, of Batavia, is charged with second-degree criminal contempt and trespassing after allegedly entering a residence in violation of a protection order. He was issued an appearance ticket.
Other individuals arrested include William T. Hughes, 68, of Batavia, for forcible touching, and Alicia M. Lyons, 45, of Batavia, for second-degree criminal contempt after violating an order of protection.
The list of arrests continues with several other individuals facing charges related to larceny, drug possession, and other offenses in the Batavia area.
