A 65-year-old man was taken into custody in Waco, Texas after allegedly attacking his ex-girlfriend and her child with a tree branch on Sunday.
Darrell Charles Crummer faced charges of assault causing bodily injury and injury to a child with the intention of causing bodily harm. The incident took place at an apartment located in the 900 block of North 26th Street in Waco.
According to the arrest affidavit, the police tried to engage in a conversation with the man in order to understand his perspective on the matter. However, he refused to cooperate and attempted to leave. As a result, the officers had no choice but to physically intervene and restrain him by escorting him to the ground and using a full body restraint.
According to the victims, the man had been drinking throughout the entire night and the morning that followed.
According to the affidavit, the police discovered two tree branches inside the living room of the apartment. These branches were subsequently collected and transported to the police property room for further investigation as potential evidence.
Crummer was arrested and taken to the McLennan County Jail, where he is currently being held on the two charges.
