On February, the president of a university in Rhode Island purchased a Mega Millions ticket. It wasn’t until a few months later that he found out the ticket was worth a whopping $1 million.
According to Ioannis Miaoulis, the president of Roger Williams University, he doesn’t typically purchase lottery tickets. However, he recently decided to try his luck in the Mega Millions drawing on February 2nd, which had a grand prize of $333 million.
Miaoulis obtained his ticket from the Stop & Shop on Metacom Avenue in Bristol, with the numbers 11-22-42-64-69 and Mega Ball 19.
After purchasing the ticket, Miaoulis stored it away in a drawer and unintentionally left it there for five months. It wasn’t until he discovered that a $1 million ticket from the same drawing had not yet been claimed that he remembered his own ticket and realized its potential worth.
To his amazement, he realized that he had successfully matched the initial five numbers from the Groundhog Day lottery drawing, which led him to win a grand prize of $1 million.
Miaoulis stated that he intends to save his prize money for his retirement.
