A 14-year-old girl was tragically shot and killed in District Heights, Md. in May, and now a 19-year-old suspect is in custody for the crime.
Hyattsville resident, Chance Waters, has been apprehended and accused of the tragic murder of 14-year-old Khamya Ferrell from Suitland. This disheartening incident, as reported by the Prince George’s County Police Department (PGPD), also resulted in injuries to two other individuals.
On May 31, 2024, at approximately 1:50 p.m., officers from the District Heights Police Department and the Prince George’s County Police Department were called to the scene of a shooting on Atwood Street in the 6600 block. Inside an apartment, Ferrell and a woman were found with gunshot wounds, while an adult male was discovered outside. All three victims were immediately taken to the hospital for treatment. Tragically, Ferrell succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced clinically deceased on June 5, 2024.
During the initial investigation, it was determined that Ferrell had been accidentally hit by a stray bullet, and he was not the intended victim. According to officials, Waters and the other suspects had been specifically targeting a different group of individuals with whom they had an ongoing feud.
Investigators are currently working on identifying and apprehending the three remaining suspects involved in the shooting, using various investigative techniques. Waters has already been identified as one of the four suspects wanted in connection with the incident.
Waters currently remains in custody at the Department of Corrections, facing charges of first and second-degree murder, along with other related charges, as stated by the PGPD.
