MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Sam Bradford started his second season with Minnesota in style, passing for 346 yards and three touchdowns to help the Vikings beat New Orleans 29-19 on Monday night and spoil Adrian Peterson’s first game with the Saints.

Stefon Diggs had seven receptions for 93 yards, two for scores, and Adam Thielen racked up 157 yards on nine catches as Bradford carved up a Saints defense that looked again like one of the worst in the league despite a major renovation. Rookie Dalvin Cook rushed for 127 yards in the formal takeover from Peterson.

Peterson, who finished with 18 yards rushing on six carries, was an afterthought once the Saints fell behind. Drew Brees was quiet, too, with 291 yards on 27-for-37 passing padded by the late push to catch up. Coby Fleener caught the only touchdown toss, after the 2-minute warning. Will Lutz made four field goals, three under 25 yards.

AMES — Iowa State coach Matt Campbell Is confident the Cyclones will bounce back with a good effort this week. After a heart breaking loss to Iowa the Cyclones prepare for their first road test when they visit Akron.

Campbell says the Cyclones bounced back with a good practice on Sunday.

Former Auburn coach Terry Bowden is in his sixth season at Akron. The Zips are 1-1 after a lopsided win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

Campbell says the Cyclones showed progress in the loss to Iowa.

Cyclones quarterback Jacob Park has been sacked once in two games. Campbell says that is a result of Park’s decision making and improved play from the offensive line.

Kickoff on Saturday in Akron is scheduled for 11 o’clock.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – The Minnesota Lynx were uprooted from their home arena this season while it undergoes some much-needed renovations.

While the Lynx played in unfamiliar territory during the regular season, Lindsay Whalen will feel right at home in the playoffs. With Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul occupied this month, the Lynx are moving again to Williams Arena, where the University of Minnesota plays.

Whalen is a former Golden Gopher and says she can’t wait to return to the building she starred in during college.

The top-seeded Lynx play Washington in the semifinals. The Mystics beat New York on Sunday thanks to nine 3-pointers from Kristi Toliver, who was a member of the Los Angeles Sparks team that beat Minnesota in the WNBA Finals last season.

Game 1 is on Tuesday night.
