TONIGHT:
AM-1300 KGLO — Minnesota Twins at Baltimore — pre-game 5:30, first pitch 6:05

BALTIMORE (AP) — Ryan Jeffers hit a tiebreaking, three-run homer in the sixth inning and the surging Minnesota Twins defeated the Baltimore Orioles 7-2 for their fourth straight victory. The Twins have won 12 of 13 to move six games over .500 and into first place in the AL Central, which does not have another team with a winning record. Minnesota has outscored the opposition 63-25 during its 13-game run, including 25-7 during its current win streak. This game was tied at 2 before the Twins took control in the sixth. Gary Sanchez hit a one-out double off Joey Krehbiel, Trevor Larnich walked and Jeffers followed with a drive over the center-field wall.

BALTIMORE (AP) — Minnesota Twins infielder Miguel Sanó will undergo surgery to repair a meniscus tear in his left knee and there’s no timeframe for his return. Twins manager Rocco Baldelli says the procedure will take place later this week. Sanó was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday. He sustained the injury on April 26 while celebrating Minnesota’s 5-4 victory over the Tigers, a game decided on the final play. It’s been a difficult season for the 28-year-old Sanó, who’s batting .093 with one home run.

DES MOINES — Iowa Cubs President and General Manager Sam Bernabe says he has warmed up to six-game series. The new format debuted a year ago during the pandemic to reduce travel and returned this season. Series run Tuesday through Sunday and Mondays are always an off day.

Bernabe says the format has helped reduce travel headaches for the team.

Bernabe believes regular off days are good for the players.

The I-Cubs opened an International League series in St. Paul last night.

AMES — Breece Hall says he is ready to show the New York Jets that he is a three-down back. The former Iowa State star was taken by the Jets in the second round of the NFL Draft after a Cyclone career that included being named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year twice.

Hall joins a New York running back group that includes Michael Carter, who rushed for 639 yards and had 325 yards receiving as a rookie.

Hall was known for his consistency at ISU and plans to take that into the NFL.

Hall rushed for almost 3500 yards while scoring 50 touchdowns in his Iowa State career.
